Screenshots on Windows operating systems

This tutorial will demonstrate how to:

Take a screenshot of your computer

Top of page Take a screenshot of your computer

There are 6 steps required to take a screenshot of your computer.

1: On the top right area of your keyboard, directly above the "Insert", "Home", "Page Up" keys, and about 4 inches above the "arrow keys"; you will see a key titled PrtScr. This is the "Print Screen" button.
Note: This key may also be labeled PrintScreen, or PrtScr/SysRq.

2: Press the print screen button, you will not notice any change or indicator that a screenshot was taken. This copies a picture of your screen to the clipboard.

3: Now open PaintBrush. To do this, goto "Start", click "Run" and type: mspaint. Then click "OK".

4: Once inside paint, goto "Edit" -> "Paste". This should insert a picture of your screen when the print screen button was pressed.
Note: If the "Paste" option is not enabled, try tapping the print screen button a couple of times then try pasting it again.

5: Now save the image as a file. Goto "File" -> "Save As...". A window will open asking you where to save the file. Click the "Desktop" button on the left. Give the file a name (I normally use "screen"). Then on the bottom, under "Save as type", choose "PNG". Then click "Save". [Show]

6: Your screenshot is now saved as screen.png on your desktop. If you wanted to email it to me, open Outlook Express, and attach it to your message.
